Bestpicky

Bestpicky is a deployed product decision demo focused on office chairs. It brings ranked guides, product specifications, recorded evidence, and scoring explanations into one browsing experience. Its purpose is to make buying trade-offs easier to understand; the current catalog demonstrates the engineering with fictional products.

Problem

Product research requires comparing scattered specifications, ratings, and editorial claims. Recommendations are difficult to assess without their evidence, missing information, or ranking method. Bestpicky addresses that transparency problem. Measured improvements in research time or purchase decisions: Unknown.

Solution

A retailer-neutral PostgreSQL catalog supports a deterministic, versioned scoring engine. Missing evidence removes a scoring dimension, redistributes remaining weights, and reduces confidence. Guides reference stored score runs; product pages expose dimension scores and evidence. Affiliate link construction is separate from scoring.

Search uses PostgreSQL full-text retrieval with a trigram fallback. AI recommendations and semantic/vector retrieval are not implemented.

User Experience

• Browse office-chair categories, ranked guides, and a buying guide.
• Search published products and guides using autocomplete and keyboard controls.
• Inspect product specifications, scores, confidence, and missing evidence.
• Follow retailer links labeled "Check current price" when no price is stored.

The visible Ask entry points lead to an unfinished route. Fictional products and placeholder retailer identifiers make this a demonstration, not a verified buying catalog.

Current Status

Status: deployed. Reviewed on 2026-09-17 against Bestpicky commit b398c3b and https://bestpicky.sinabolouri.com.

The homepage, a product page, and search API responded successfully; /ask returned 404. The live sitemap lists 13 products and five guides matching the development seed. Commercial launch readiness is unverified.

This implementation supersedes older portfolio records describing Bestpicky as an idea, listing Prisma, or implying implemented AI recommendations.

Tech Stack

Next.js 16 App Router, React 19, strict TypeScript, Tailwind CSS 4, Motion, next-themes, Zod, PostgreSQL, Drizzle ORM, and postgres.js. Vercel serves the deployment. Documentation identifies Neon as the database host; live account configuration was not inspected.

Quality tooling includes Vitest, Playwright, axe accessibility checks, ESLint, Prettier, and GitHub Actions.
